Children of the Greeks
04:53
|
|
||
We are the children of the Greeks
We are the children of the Greeks
Sawing men in half, in two
into two parts
We fault material things
long for the realm of ideas
Reality exists for us
in two separate parts
A divided world
A way to see reality
One the lowly earth
from which we must flee
And the other realm
of thought and ideas
matter, flesh, and time
will all pass away
We are the children of God
We are the children of God
Made from the dust and wind
We are a whole
He spoke material things
Formed us and we became beings
As he looked upon his work
He said it was good
Maker of all space and time
He said it was good
A united world
created reality
on the blessed Earth
filled with his breath
Not destined for
a bodiless future
but a world and body
fully restored
For the Word was
in the beginning
Through him all was made
and he was with God
And the word became
he became flesh and blood
Still he shares with us
our humanity
One day He’ll restore
restore all the world
One day He'll restore
restore all the world
One day He'll restore
restore all the world
One day He'll restore
restore our world

Unknown God
06:41
|
|
||
(Acts 17:23-34)
As I walked along I looked at all
your objects on display
in marble, carved by history
museum of deities
And I found an altar that described
'An unknown god' it was inscribed
Now i shall tell you of an unnamed God
The Unknown God
who made the nations
and from one man
he chose their times and places
That we might seek
and perhaps find him
And come to know
an unknown God
This God I speak of
made the world
and every living thing
He does not live in temples built
by hands or plans of men
And the divine is not like gold
or silver or a precious stone
Revealed himself through
one man raised from death
The Unknown God
who made the nations
and from one man
he chose their times and places
That we might seek
and perhaps find him
And come to know
an unknown God
Though he is not far
from each of us
for in him we live
and move and exist and breathe
in the words of ancient poets
We are his own offspring
His own children
His children
We are his offspring
The Unknown God
who made the nations
and from one man
he chose their times and places
That we might seek
and perhaps find him
And come to know
the unknown God
The Unknown God
who is revealing
And from one man
he chose our times and places
That we might seek
and perhaps find him
And come to know
And come to know
And come to know
the unknown God

"The unexamined faith is not worth having."
- Elton Trueblood
When did faith become a synonym for switching off
the mind, intelligence which God gave to us
When did 'just believe' become a cover-all excuse
a phrase to pacify the seekers 'mongst us
Truth is not a structure but a lion who can roar
Loose it chains and you need not defend it
If we truly trust that what is light will come to light
we needn't play protectors of this giant
Not damaged by question or a doubt
Stood against the ages and the tides
Come seek in honesty and love
It can take a punch I think you'll find
Can we really claim to be a movement or engaged
if challenges and queries really threaten
Is an unexamined faith, a faith that's worth your life
It's those who trust the wind who lean into it
Not damaged by question or a doubt
Stood against the ages and the tides
Come seek in honesty and love
It can take a punch I think you'll find
Not damaged by question or a doubt
Stood against the ages and the tides
Come seek in honesty and love

Shakespeare in Space
04:11
|
|
||
In 1961, when Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev, defiantly declared that his cosmonaut returned from outer space and had not found God, a New York magazine had asked C.S. Lewis to respond. He replied:
“Looking for God — or Heaven — by exploring space is like reading or seeing all Shakespeare’s plays in the hope you will find Shakespeare as one of the characters... Shakespeare is in one sense present at every moment in every play...
“If there were an idiot who thought plays exist on their own, without an author, our belief in Shakespeare would not be much affected by his saying, quite truly, that he had studied all the plays and never found Shakespeare in them…..Those who do not find him (God) on earth are unlikely to find him in space."
(C. S. Lewis, Show Magazine, February 1963)

We have lift off, off we go
Carrying the human load
Questions like nebulae
Origin
Where to come from
Where to go
Does anybody know. Hello.
Are we floating here alone
And looking for God in outer space
is like reading all of Shakespeare's plays
Hoping to find him in the cast
when he's present in each act
Could we
Study page on page of artistry
In the world, across its tapestry
And miss the Artist altogether
What if a fool
claimed that all of Shakespeare's play
all existed on their own
without an author or an origin?
And looking for God in outer space
is like reading all of Shakespeare's plays
Hoping to find him in the cast
when he's present in each act

"You would not have called to me unless I had been calling to you," said the Lion.”
- C. S. Lewis (The Silver Chair)
You would not have called
unless I had been calling
You would not have found
if I'd not stirred you to search
You would not have seen
unless your eyes were opened
Not understood a word
if I'd not caused you to hear
You would not have called to me
unless I had been calling to you
You would not have come
unless I had approached you
You would not have reached
unless I had stretched out
You would not have known
unless I had revealed it
You would not have lived
if I hadn't shown myself
You would not have called to me
unless I had been calling to you
And you would not have known
unless I had revealed it
You could not have lived
If I didn't show myself
Oh you would not have known
unless I had revealed it
You could not have lived
If I didn't show myself
You would not have known

Let It Speak
03:54
|
|
||
Inspired by "The Drama of Scripture" by Craig G. Bartholomew, Michael W. Goheen.
It is not a test of science
or an encyclopedia
nor is it a mere collection
of abstract moral thought
It's the real ongoing story
of a good creator God
He the Truth, the great Revealer
Endless, close to each of us
Let it speak
let it speak
in a language of its own
Come and hear, come and read
it from the start
Come let go of your creeds
Come and listen with your ears
Let the Bible's narrative speak for itself
It is not a rabbi's teaching
or for ethical debate
nor is it a set of doctrine
or a weapon of the State
Let it speak
let it speak
in a language of its own
Come and hear, come and read
it from the start
Come let go of your creeds
Come and listen with your ears
Let the Bible's narrative speak for itself
If this ancient book was written
like a story through the Age
Shouldn't our reading, method
match the language on its page
Let it speak
let it speak
in a language of its own
Come and hear, come and read
it from the start
Come let go of your creeds
Come and listen with your ears
Let the Bible's narrative speak for itself
Let the Bible's
narrative speak for itself

Until
05:15
|
|
||
(Romans 7:14-25)
Jesus please listen to
the tiny part of me
that wants you
And disregard
all the rest
To say i want you wholeheartedly
wouldn't be honest
Not until
not until
you change me
Not until
not until
you change me
And I’m waiting for the day
when my heart of stone will fade
into a heart that only wants you
But until that day arrives
I will fall unto my knees and cry
Lord will you accept
my fickle request
my weak invitation
you’ve asked, asked me to come
to you with that load
to you with that burden
So until
so until
you change me
So until
so until
you change me
And I’m waiting for that day
when my heart of stone will fade
into a heart that only wants you
But until that day arrives
I will fall unto my knees and cry
I’m waiting for that day
when my heart of stone will fade
into a heart that only wants you
So until that day arrives
I will fall into your arms and cry
And we’re waiting for that day
when we stare into your face
our hearts will change
in the twinkle of your eyes
So until that day arrives
We will fall into your grace
until that day arrives
we will fall into your grace
so until that days arrives

Plans
05:26
|
|
||
(Jeremiah 29:11-14)
This is what the Lord
the God of Israel says:
I will not forget
and I fulfil my promises
For I know
the plans I have for you
Plans to prosper you
Not to harm
But a future of hope
When will you call on me?
When you call my name
When you pray I'll listen
For I know
the plans I have for you
Plans to prosper you
not to harm
But a future of hope
Plans to prosper you
not to harm
But a future of hope
When will you call
When you seek me
You will find me
If you seek me
wholeheartedly
For I know
the plans I have for you
Plans to prospers you
not to harm
But a future of hope
For I know
the plans I have for you
Plans to prosper you
not to harm
but a future of hope
Plans to prosper you
I your God will bring you home
When will you call on me

Any Road
03:48
|
|
||
"Those who love me come from every system that exists.
They were Buddhist or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims, Democrats, Republicans, and many who don’t vote or are not a part of any Sunday morning or religious institutions. I have followers who were murderers and many who were self-righteous, Some are bankers and bookies, Americans and Iraqis, Jews and Palestinians. I have no desire to make them Christian."
“Does that mean," asked Mack, "that all roads will lead to you?"
"Not at all," smiled Jesus..."Most roads don't lead anywhere. What it does mean is that I will travel any road to find you.”
| Wm. Paul Young, The Shack, excerpt ]
___________________________
Is life like a tree
where all branches meet
flowing like a river
that gathers into a stream?
Most roads are dead ends
leading us to nowhere
But on every pathway
a dearest Stranger will be
He will travel
any road to find you
Though we barricade
our own road to glory
The Son of God came
and he became the way
He will travel
any road to find you
He will travel any road to find you

Roars in Your Veins
03:41
|
|||
Melt down the lies
like metal knives
over the licking flames
of bravery
Even in days of your sprouting youth
Dare seek the truth
till it roars in your veins
Send out your light
Let it lead, bring me to your
holy mountain
Send out your truth
Let it lead to the altar
to the place where you dwell
Spark in my mind
Like stars be my guide
I walk 'cross a plain
that is scattered with enemies
My head hung low
My soul it has groaned
Will you set it free
from deception and slavery
Send out your light
Let it lead, bring me to your
holy mountain
Send out your truth
Let it lead to the altar
to the place where you dwell
