Wedding Feast

from Shavat by Natalie Kendel

/

about

Wedding Feast takes us to the scene in Revelation 19, sitting at a table of celebration, hosted by the Prince of Heaven. It plays off the themes of a married couple finally together and spending time together, and a mother opening Sabbath with her family on Friday evening.
(Revelation 19:6-9)

lyrics

He lights a candle, pours the wine
Neither can recall the last time
He's been so busy, chained to work
Forgot to put his bride first

Now holding hands they watch the flame
Speaking soft each other's names
A promise he intends to keep,
made long ago at a wedding feast

Ooh...

She lights two candles, speaks the words
Light is peeking through her fingers
Praying for her family
for growth and warmth and safety

While Friday's sun is dying out
They all approach a table set
The old and young will have a piece
of a supper worthy of a wedding feast

Ooh...

He lights the city, pours the wine
He hasn't drunk it since that dark night
A thousand generations sit
A million promises He kept

And holding out His branded hands
He welcomes home His ransomed Bride
Once we were the very least
But now we attending
His wedding feast

Ooh...

Here is drink and here is food
There's a seat saved just for you
Let us sing and tell old tales
Here the times will melt away
He has infiltrated Death
at the sound of His footsteps
Only brothers, sisters here
At the feast of the Bridegroom

Come to the table!
